FAQ

BOTOX

Should I do anything to prepare for the treatment?

Dr. Senger advises that a week before your treatment you stop the consumption of alcohol and refrain taking any medications or supplements that could thin the blood such as NSAIDs (i.e. advil, aleve), aspirin, fish oil or vitamin D.

Are there side effects?

Side effects may include, headache, swelling, redness, bruising and tenderness around the injection site. For most patients, the procedure is extemely well tolerated with minimal discmofort and rarely any downtime. If you so experience any of these symptoms, they will resolve within a few days to a week.

When should I start getting Botox?

Patients typically get their first Botox treatment when they notice fine lines or wrinkles on the face in areas of the forehead, between the eyes and beside the eyes. The time that this will occur can vary by patient and may begin to be noticable in patients as early as age 20. If you are unsure you may schedule a free consultation with Dr. Senger prior to treatment.

What does a Botox treatment feel like?

Botox injections are very well tolerated and there is typically only minor discomort. It is a quick 5-10 minute procedure and pain does not typically persist once the procedure is complete. This treatment does not require any anesthesia. It is performed by making a small series of carefully placed injections in the treatment area.

How many units/areas will I need?

This vairies based on each patient’s facial anatomy and treatment goals. Typically 10-20 units of botox are administered in each area. The most common areas treated are the forehead, glabella and crows feet. To get a definite answer you’ll need to schedule a consultation with Dr. Senger. Consultations are always free.

Will I still be able to make facial expressions after my botox treatment?

Yes. The effects of Botox are subtle and limited only to the treatment area. You will experience reduced movement in the muscles that have been treated. You will start noticing this as soon as 1-2 days afer the treatment and full results can be seen by 7-10 days with results that last 3-4 months on average. Some patients love a frozen look and others prefer a more natural result. Dr. Senger will fit the treatment to match each patient’s individual needs.

Is there anything I should not do after my Botox treatment?

Normal daily activity can be resumed immediately following treatment. Light exercise can be performed 4 hours after treatment but it is recommended that any strenuous exercise or activities be avoided for 24 hours. It is also advised to stay away from direct sunlight for 24hrs following the procedure.

How soon can I resume drinking alcohol after my Botox treatment?

Dr. Senger recommends limiting alcohol in the first 24 hours after treatment. This is because alcohol is known to thin the blood and abstaining from it can help prevent bruising.

May I apply make-up or skin care products after treatment?

Yes. Immediately after the procedure, you may wash your face, apply skin care products or make-up. However, it is advised not to excessivly rub or massage your face for up to 4 hours after treatment.

What if my Botox results are not what I expected?

Botox typically takes 7-10 days for final results. If after the 10 days you are still not satisfied with your results you may return to the office for a complimentary touch-up.

DERMAL FILLERS

Is the procedure painful?

Most patients have said to experience only mild discomfort. Dr. Senger does provide the option of a local anesthetic cream for a more comfortable experience. Many of our fillers are also formulated with lidocaine to help ease any discomfort.

Is there any downtime following the administration of dermal fillers?

No, you may return to your normal routine following treatment. However, patients may experience swelling and/or bruising and it is best not to schedule filler appointments just prior to important events.

How do I know which filler is best for me?

The choice of filler depends on each patient’s treatment goals and the area to be treated. The fillers differ in consistency, viscosity and duration and are indicated for different areas of the face. Prior to your treatment, Dr. Senger will recommend which fillers will be optimal for your specific treatment area.

Will my results be natural looking?

Yes. Dr. Senger simply enhances one’s natural feature for optimal cosmetic results. Patient goals vary and its our focus to educate the patient on which filler or area will produce the best cosmetic outcome. Dr. Senger avoids any treatments that may produce an unnatural or fake looking effect.

Can the effect of dermal fillers be removed or reversed?

Yes. HA (Hyaluronic Acid) fillers such as Juvederm and Restylane can be quickly dissolved using an enzyme known as hyaluronidase. This can also be done to fine tune any uneveness, excessive volume or bumps that may arrise from improperly placed injections.

What’s the difference between botox and dermal fillers?

Both treatments require injections, but botulinum toxin relaxes muscle movement that results in wrinkles while dermal fillers simply plump out and smooth wrinkles and add volume to enhance the natural contours of the face that can deteriorate due to aging. Botox is typically administered in the forehead, glabella and crows feet. Most common sites for dermal fillers are the nasolabial folds, lips, and cheeks. Sometimes, these treatments are more effective when combined to achieve an optimal cosmetic result.

Are there any after care instructions for fillers?

Dr. Senger advises you to refrain from exercise for at least 4 hours after treatment and to avoid strenuous activities and sunlight for at least 24hrs. An icepack may be applied to any areas where there is swelling and or bruising. Over 1-2 weeks following your treatment results will improve with the resolution of any swelling or bruising.

Are there any side effects or risks with dermal filler injections?

Side effects of dermal fillers are usually mild and can range from redness, bruising, tenderness and/or swelling. Although exceedingly rare, infection is always a possibility. Other rare adverse rreactions are possible but are very uncommon and can be discussed with you prior to the procedure.

COOLSCULPTING

How many treatments will I need?

Every patient will be different. The number of sessions depends on the number of areas, the size of the areas and the desired outcome. All of this can be determined by you and Dr. Senger during your initial free consultation.

What is Coolsculpting?

Coolsculpting is an FDA cleared innovative fat freezing technology designed to safely target and kill fat cells without damaging surrounding tissue. Once the fat cells are treated, they are gone for good as your body naturally processes the fat and eliminates these dead cells.

Which areas can be treated with Coolsculpting?

Coolsculpting applicators can be used to treat numerous body areas including but not limited to: Under the chin, bra fat, upper arm, abdomen, back fat, flanks, banana rolls, and inner and outer thighs. The most commonly treated area is the abdomen.

Is Coolsculpting painful?

In general coolsculpting has very little discomfort. During the procedure you may experience sensations of pulling, tugging, mild pinching, intense cold, tingling, stinging, aching, and cramping at the treatment site. These sensations subside as the area becomes numb from the cold after a few minutes. Following each cycle there is a mandatory brief massage that takes places. The massage can be uncomfortable but only lasts two minutes.

How long until I see my Coolsculpting results?

You may be able to see improvement in the treated area for up to 6 months, however, you can begin to see a reduction in fat in as little as three weeks after the inital treatment. Most results are quite noticeable after 2-3 months. We recommend returning for a follow up visit to see if a second treatment is required at 3 months after the first procedure.

How long does the procedure take?

Treatment times vary depending on which areas of the body are being treated and how many total cycles you plan on doing in each area. Treatment times start at 2 hrs and increase from there. You may watch movies and tv shows on our large screen tvs during the treatment.

MIRADRY

How does the procedure work?

miraDry uses thermal energy to create heat in the area where bothersome sweat and odor glands reside and safely eliminates them.

Don’t I need my sweat glands?

While your body does need sweat glands to cool itself, your body has 2-4 million sweat glands and only about 2% are found in your underarms. Eliminating 2% of sweat glands does not affect your body’s ability to cool itself. After your treatment you will continue to sweat normally in other areas of your body.

How many treatments will I need?

You can achieve 80% reduction in sweating and odor in as little as one treatment. However, some people require 2 treatments to acheive desired results.

PDO THREADS

What are Mint PDO threads made of?

The threads are a safe and effective absorbable suture made from a biocompatible material called PDO, polydioxanone. With a 10 years of safety established in surgery, PDO has proved itself as a safe raw material that has been used in orthopedic and cardiovascular surgery for wound closure.

Will I be able to see the threads?

The threads are placed under the skin and are not visible once they are inserted. There are also no incisions that are visible after the procedure.

How long will my MINT PDO threading last?

The results of the procedure will last up to 12 months. However, the duration may depend on the patient’s age, skin quality, how much lift was achieved and how the skin was maintained after the procedure.

Which areas can be treated with MINT PDO threading?

Threading is highly effective for sagging jowls, rejuvenating mid-face, softening the nasolabial folds, minimizing double chin and/or neck and brow lifts.

How does the procedure work?

Local anesthetic will be applied to the treated area, so you will be comfortable throughout the procedure. Dr. Senger will then use a cannula to insert the PDO threads into the deeper layer of your skin. Once inserted into the appropriate layer of skin, they act as anchors and the skin is lifted upwards as the thread is pulled to achieve the most optimal result.

What are the aftercare instructions for MINT PDO Threading?

Patients will be able to return to everyday life after their procedure. Swelling, redness or bruising may occur and will subside within 1-2 weeks. Avoid pulling tugging or massaging your facial skin for at least 3 weeks following your procedure. Avoid any strenuous activities or workouts for 2 weeks and avoid exaggerated facial expressions for at least 2 weeks. Ice may be applied intermittently in the first couple days after the procedure to minimize swelling and bruising.

How long does the procedure take?

MINT PDO threading can be completed in as little as one hour but can take up to two hours depending on how many threads are being inserted.
